Andrew R. Leeper, a longtime partner at the firm of Kohnen & Patton, LLP, passed
away suddenly Sunday, November 18, 2012 at the age of 56. The cause of death was a
Mr. Leeper was born, and grew up in, Wooster, Ohio. Andy practiced business law
since 1983. He started his practice in New York City, and continued to be a member
of the New York Bar as well as the Ohio Bar. Andy worked in both New York City and
Dayton prior to joining Kohnen & Patton in February 1992.
Andy was a quiet man with a great sense of humor. He was also a man of high intel-
lectual ability, valedictorian at both high school and college, Phi Beta Kappa, summa
cum laude at the College of Wooster and Order of the Coif at the Ohio State University
College of Law.
Andy’s practice was primarily focused in the area of business transactions. At the
time of his death, his office was lined with transcripts of proceedings from various
securities and corporate transactions, including public and private offerings of corpo-
rate securities, and mergers and acquisitions in both the public and private corporate
sectors. His practice involved commercial and corporate transactions for a variety of
businesses ranging from small entrepreneurs to national and regional organizations,
and in many diverse areas of commerce ranging from the restaurant industry to major
Among his many interests, Andy was something of a Biblical scholar, conducting
adult Sunday school classes, usually after singing in the choir at the Loveland United
Methodist Church. He was a history buff and a close follower of the political scene on
the local, state and national levels.
In his youth, Andy achieved the Boy Scouts of America’s Eagle Scout award.
A devoted husband and father, Andy is survived by his wife Paulette and his daugh-
ters Sarah (Seth) Lucas and Hannah. Andy was extremely proud of his daughters’
many academic and athletic achievements.
Our firm and Cincinnati’s legal community have lost a friend, an excellent attorney
and a wonderful man.
