Dinsmore is pleased to announce that it
has promoted
Christopher W. Elswick
and
David A. Whaley
to the firm partnership.
Elswick is a member of Dinsmore’s intel-
lectual property department and his practice
emphasizes patent prosecution and counsel-
ing, opinion work, due diligence studies and
development and management of patent port-
folios. He is admitted to practice before the
United States Patent and Trademark Office
and is licensed in the states of Ohio and Mas-
sachusetts. Elswick’s practice encompasses
a number of technical areas within the me-
chanical and electrical engineering arts such
as experience in a variety of automotive sys-
tems, medical devices, water treatment tech-
nologies, electro-mechanical devices, fluid
flow control mechanisms, software and con-
sumer products. He counsels a broad range of
clients on the procurement and assessment of
intellectual property rights from individuals
to Fortune 500 companies. Elswick earned
his J.D. from the Moritz College of Law and
his B.S. in mechanical engineering from the
University of Kentucky. Chris has previous
legal experience as an associate with Fish &
Richardson P.C. in Boston.
Whaley
assists
companies in all areas of employee benefits
including design, implementation and com-
pliance in providing tax qualified and non-
qualified deferred compensation arrange-
ments (e.g. 409A compliance), health and
welfare arrangements and employee fringe
benefits. His practice includes representing
employers before the Internal Revenue Ser-
vice, Department of Labor and the Pension
Benefit Guaranty Corporation. Whaley has
extensive experience in the area of Employee
Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs). His ESOP
practice experience includes representing
both companies sponsoring ESOPs and
ESOP trustees and fiduciaries in transactions
between the sponsor, selling shareholders and
the ESOP. David has presented extensively on
this subject at ESOP Association Chapter and
National meetings and also at meetings of the
Ohio Employee Ownership Center. Whaley
also regularly presents and assists employers
in designing health care programs to comply
with the emerging landscape of the Afford-
able Care Act.

has been named partner.
Hawkins has extensive
first and second chair
experience in multi-
million dollar jury trials and arbitrations. She
focuses her practice on construction, product
liability, general commercial, and intellectual
property litigation in federal and state courts
across the country and is admitted to practice
in Ohio, the United States District Court for
the Southern and Northern Districts of Ohio,
the Sixth Circuit of Appeals, and the South-
ern District of Indiana. Heather received
her J.D.,
cum laude
, from the University of
Louisville, Brandeis School of Law. She is also
a board member of the NKU Construction
Management Board of Advisors and a WE
Lead Class 7 participant.

Gillen has counseled clients in publishing
and entertainment transactions and disputes,
internet issues, advertising law, computer law,
copyrights, technology transfer, trade secrets
and related matters. He received a B.S. from
Miami University, and his J.D. from Salmon
P. Chase College of Law.
