Professional Background
Pinney is the senior trial lawyer at Graydon Head and his practice for the past 25 years has focused largely on international disputes in which he has represented both U.S. and foreign parties in cases before U.S. state and federal courts and before international arbitration tribunals acting under ICC, UNCITRAL, CPR, AAA and Hong Kong arbitration rules. He teaches international arbitration at the University of Cincinnati College of Law and was also named "Arbitration Lawyer of the Year" by Best Lawyers for 2014. Pinney served as a law clerk for Judge Philip Pratt of the U.S. District Court, E.D.Mich.–1972-74. He has been active in the Cincinnati, Ohio State, American, Federal and International Bar Associations and has been a frequent speaker and program participant on federal procedure, international litigation, enforcement of foreign judgments, international arbitration and alternative dispute resolution at many venues in the United States as well as internationally in Argentina, Austria, Canada, China, England, Hong Kong, Korea, Spain, Turkey, Hungary and elsewhere. Pinney is a Life Member of the Sixth Circuit Judicial Conference and recently completed his term as chair of the Advisory Committee on Rules for the Sixth Circuit. Pinney is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.  He also has been trained as a mediator for international disputes in a program held at the Hague sponsored by the International Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution and also currently serves as a volunteer mediator for U.S. District Court in Cincinnati.
