Labor & Employment

Purpose

The Labor & Employment Law Committee of the CBA seeks to bring together lawyers from every facet of labor and employment law-those involved in both the public and private sectors, those who represent both plaintiffs and defendants, those whose practice is focused on either labor or employment law. In an effort to better serve our clients and our profession, we join together regularly to share ideas and update our knowledge on topics of concern to all who participate in the field of labor and employment law.

A Message from the Chair

Michael A. Manzler

“Welcome to the Cincinnati Bar Association's Labor & Employment Law Committee!  We meet monthly at the CBA on the final Thursday of the month, at noon for about one hour.  Over lunch, we usually have a speaker or speakers leading a discussion of, for example, significant recent court decisions, new government regulations from the EEOC, DOL, or NLRB, or current trends in various employment- or labor-related areas such as alternative dispute resolution or expert witnesses.  With active participation and input from attorneys on the plaintiffs' side and the employers' side, including in-house counsel, we're fortunate to hear from a variety of perspectives and often enjoy a spirited discussion.  In fact, aside from keeping up with substantive developments in labor & employment law, I firmly believe the biggest benefit of participating in our informal Committee meetings is the opportunity to interact with and get to know personally -- and maybe even learn from! -- our labor & employment colleagues whom we might otherwise see only across the deposition table or courtroom.  Our biggest project each year is to plan and hold our annual Labor & Employment Law Symposium, which this year is scheduled for Friday, September 28.  I hope you will come check us out!”
