This program has been approved for Ohio CLE credit only.

Description:

The consumer litigation funding industry has historically been considered a necessary evil. Plaintiff funding helps clients get by during the course of their lawsuit, but usually at a high cost. This CLE will explore what plaintiff funding is, the pitfalls to avoid, the ethics around this largely gray area, how to talk to your clients about it, and how you can turn it into a resource for your firm.

Presenters:

Rachel McCarthy is the Executive Director of the Milestone Foundation, the only 501c3 nonprofit in the plaintiff funding industry. Rachel has over 15 years' experience leading teams and growing companies, whether it be at a law firm, start up, legal services company, or nonprofit. Rachel graduated from Fordham University with a B.A. in Political Science and Peace & Justice Studies. Her goal is to turn the plaintiff funding industry into a force for good.

Cara Wall, Esq., Senior Partner, Bullock Legal Group, is an accomplished trial attorney with extensive experience in mass torts, medical device and drug litigation, and personal injury law. Since earning her Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan Law School in 2012, Cara has passionately advocated for clients in high-profile cases involving products liability, defective medical devices, dangerous drugs, and nursing home negligence.

Adam Nightingale, Esq., Eastman & Smith, provides legal representation and crisis management for companies, health care/medical providers and other individuals subject to government investigations and prosecutions.  He also assists his clients in responding to subpoenas and civil investigative demands from federal and state regulatory and law-enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).  Additionally, he represents companies and individuals who have been victimized by, or witnesses to, white collar crime.
