Lawrence “Larry” Elleman
1940 – 2020
Lawrence “Larry” Elleman, who prac- ticed law with Dinsmore and Shohl for 42 years, died October 2, 2020 at the age of 79. Larry loved being a lawyer and was an accomplished trial attorney, mediator
and mentor.
Larry grew up in Eaton, Ohio and attended Dixon Israel
High School (Eaton High School), where he played drums in the “famous” Stardusters Orchestra. He graduated from The Ohio State University in 1963 and was a member of the Delta Theta Sigma Fraternity. He received his Juris Doctor from The Ohio State University College of Law in 1966. On September 12, 1964, he married the love of his life, Barbara Ellen Mann. Together they raised daughter, Laura and son, Rob.
Upon graduation he served as a law clerk for Judge Don J. Young of the US District Court located in Northern Ohio. There- after he began his career with Dinsmore and Shohl.
Larry was a wonderful person who would do anything for his friends or anyone in need. He was known for his kind and generous optimism. Larry loved history, volunteering, spending time with family, reading (only biographies of Presidents), and Ohio State football. He particularly enjoyed relaxing with family and friends at the family lake house, near Eaton.
Larry’s dedication to his profession is exemplified by his service as chair of the Board of Commissioners of Grievances and Discipline of the Ohio Supreme Court and as chair of the Ohio Civil Rules Committee of the Ohio Supreme Court.
His many charitable endeavors included being a founding member and past president of the Ronald McDonald House. He also served as past president of the Cincinnatus Association.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Bob, and his mother, Genevieve. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, children Laura and Rob and their spouses Charlie and Carrie; five grandchildren, Lily, Zach, Violet, Andrew, and Arthur; his three siblings, Gene (Fran), Kathryn (Chuck), and Carolyn (Phil); nieces, nephews and friends. A private service was held by the family at Mound Hill Cemetery in Eaton, Ohio. A celebration of his life is planned for a later date.
Larry will be missed by everyone he touched.
