 LEGAL
LISTENS Podcasts for the listening lawyer
Let’s be honest for a second, there are A LOT of podcasts out there. Name a topic, an ideology, a TV show, movie genre, school subject, preference in shoes (seriously) and there’s a podcast about it. There are even podcasts about podcasting.
So how is a person to choose? While I could spend days curating lists of non-legal podcasts, if you’re wanting to learn more about growing your legal business or staying abreast of legal news, this list is for you. It has been organized by topic for your convenience.
Podcasts to grow your legal business:
Lawyerist – From the creators of Lawyerist.com, the hosts
of this podcast interview thought-leaders, authors, attorneys and other professionals to gain insights on topics impacting
the practice of law across all spectrums. Each episode includes
a kind of “sponsored content” interview about a product or service that could be beneficial to a practice. The main interview covers a wide range of topics like mental health, marketing, firm building, ethics, technology, human resources issues, profes- sional development and more.
Released weekly | Episode length: 30-50 minutes
Legal ToolKit – Jared Correia interviews attorneys to discuss programs, ideas or innovations that have worked in their prac- tice or firms. This podcast is more irreverent than others on this list and definitely includes some not-safe-for-work language and segments but the host explains complex concepts like AI in real- world practice in a way that anyone can understand.
Released every two weeks | Episode length: 30-40 minutes
Technically Legal – As you might guess from the title, this podcast discusses legal technology and innovation. This is
By Vanessa Seeger
a great podcast for those interested in technology, AI, data analytics and more. It is not geared toward the novice but also not inaccessible to a person moderately versed in tech. Released monthly | Episodes length: ~30 minutes
Un-Billable Hour – This is a law practice advisory podcast that covers all the aspects of a law practice that are un-billable, like marketing, professional development, human resource and, building your practice. The host interviews experts in various fields to build skills in practice management and offers real- world strategies that can be implemented by firms of all sizes, though geared more toward small firms or solos.
Released monthly | Episode length: 30-40 minutes
Podcasts about legal news
Law360’s Pro Say – Three hosts discuss the legal news of the week. Episodes begin with a lightning round of legal news for the week and then a deeper dive into several stories selected by the hosts. This podcast is a great source of legal highlights and a good way to get a general overview of what’s happening. While it is geared more toward the general public, it is still informa- tive for the legal professional who may not have the time to read beyond the headlines.
Released weekly | Episodes length: 30-40 minutes
Lawyer 2 Lawyer – This is a really excellent podcast for those attempting to grapple with all the legal implications of current events, court decisions or new laws. Host J. Craig Williams interviews fellow attorneys who dissect each aspect of the day’s topic and discuss how it might apply in different situations and how an attorney might approach tackling it in court.
Released every two weeks | Episode length: 30 minutes
