Thomas C. Rink
1945 – 2024
The story of Tom Rink’s life is extraor-
dinary by any measure. Tom conducted
his professional life in a quiet and unas-
suming way, but it took only the briefest
of interactions with him to understand
that he possessed an impressive grasp of
the law and an equally impressive ability
to analyze and solve complex issues. His
education included a B.B.A. in Accounting and a Juris Doctorate
from the University of Notre Dame. He earned a Master of Laws
in Taxation at George Washington University. An important part
of his preparation for life were the four years he served in the US
Marine Corps in which he attained the rank of Captain.
Most of his professional life was spent at Strauss Troy where
he chaired the Tax Department of that firm. Tom was active in the
Cincinnati Bar Association where he served as Chair of the Tax
Section. His work on the Southwestern Ohio Tax Institute signifi-
cantly contributed to the popularity and success of its annual
seminar on taxation. Additionally, Tom served on the Board of
the Cincinnati Estate Planning Council.
Tom’s service to the community included serving on the Board
of the Cincinnati Nature Center, being president of the Cincin-
nati Athletic Club, and service on the City Counsel and as Mayor
of Indian Hill.
More important to Tom than his professional life and his
community engagement was his family. His marriage to Alison
(nee Whittaker) spanned more than 55 years of happiness. He
participated extensively in the lives of his sons, Collin and Brian,
by coaching their athletic teams when they were young and golfing
with them during adulthood.
The symmetry of Tom’s life is an illustration of what a good
life can be. He will be missed by his family, friends, the commu-
nity, and the profession.

people. While John was a very experienced real estate attorney
and a registered land examiner, he really loved doing real estate

His closings were known for their “lightning speed!” John was the
consummate people person. The glass was always “half full” and
usually overflowing.
