Themis Award
Barbara J. Howard, Barbara J. Howard Co. LPA
Barbara J. Howard has dedicated her career to serving clients in family law throughout the greater
Cincinnati area. As the founder of Barbara J. Howard Co., LPA, she has been a specialist in family
relations law since 1999. With decades of experience, she helps clients navigate legal issues related to
divorce, child custody, spousal and child support.
John P. Kiely Professionalism Award
George D. Jonson, Montgomery Jonson
George D. Jonson is an experienced trial and appellate lawyer, regularly appearing before the Ohio
Supreme Court. The focus of George’s practice is the representation of lawyers in legal malpractice
cases and the representation of lawyers and Ohio judges in disciplinary cases. He also provides ethics
advice to lawyers and judges.
John P. Kiely Professionalism Award
R. Scott Croswell III, Croswell & Adams
Scott Croswell is a skilled criminal defense attorney with a career spanning over four decades. He has
dedicated his practice to representing individuals and organizations facing serious criminal charges
including corporations, news organizations, judges, attorneys, law enforcement officers, clergy
members, and private citizens. He’s defending clients against charges ranging from aggravated murder
to OVI to financial crimes, and more.
Community Service Award
Chief Magistrate Judge Stephanie K. Bowman, U.S. District Court, Southern District of Ohio
Magistrate Judge Stephanie K. Bowman began her career in private practice before transitioning to
public service as a law clerk in the Southern District of Ohio. In 2010, she was appointed as a United
States Magistrate Judge and became Chief Magistrate Judge in 2025. Beyond the courtroom, she is a
leader in the legal community, serving in various professional organizations and mentor programs.
Volunteer Lawyer of the Year Award
Amberly M. Newberry-Borchers, Scott E. Knox Attorneys at Law
The Volunteer Lawyers Project is pleased to announce our 2024 Volunteer Lawyer of the Year,
Amberly Newberry-Borchers. Ms. Newberry-Borchers is an Associate Attorney with Scott E.
