     CINCINNATI BAR FOUNDATION
INVESTING FOR JUSTICE
Each year, Investing for Justice, the Cincinnati Bar Foundation’s annual fundraiser, helps local organizations better fulfill their respective missions. Fueled by the generosity of our local legal community, Investing for Justice is a critical campaign that provides essential support to organizations that are as committed to justice as we are.
Hear from three grant recipients who are able to make a difference for their constituents because the Cincinnati Bar Foundation made a difference for them:

Earlier this year we received funding from the Cincinnati Bar Foundation for Launch — our program serving youth 14+ who are at-risk of aging out of foster care without a permanent home. This program is vital for this age group, as these youth face the highest rates of incarceration, homelessness, and serious mental health issues as they age out of care. Additionally, there is a significant lack of services and support available to older youth at-risk of aging out and no formal process exists to help them transition from foster care to the adult world. Covid-19 and its effects have already, and will continue, to exasperate these issues — leading to even fewer resources for one of our community’s most vulnerable populations.
With funding from the Cincinnati Bar Foundation, we were able to support the CASA Manager/GAL salaries for ProKids staff serving these youth. CASA Mangers are part of a Launch Advocacy Team, also including a Launch CASA Volunteer and ProKids staff Attorney. Together, this team works with youth to advocate on their behalf and represent their best interest in court, help them graduate from high school/pass the GED, gain housing, obtain employment, and research/enter post-secondary education. They also help build life skills — ranging from nutrition and cooking to managing finances and navigating the healthcare system.
ProKids will continue these efforts to further improve our graduation rates and achieve outstanding outcomes on behalf of the older youth we serve. — Sarah Breedlove, ProKids
We are grateful for the Cincinnati Bar Foundation’s support of the Volunteer Lawyers Project. The Foundation’s grant helps the VLP recruit attorneys to take cases pro bono. Last year, we recruited 25 new attorneys. They, and 240 other VLP attorneys, resolved legal issues for over 3,000 low-income individuals and families who would not otherwise have had access to legal assistance.
As we celebrate the VLP’s 40th anniversary, we recognize our longstanding partnerships with the Cincinnati Bar Association and the Cincinnati Bar Foundation that help sustain the VLP’s ability to provide quality legal assistance to those in need in our community.
—Jessica Ramos VLP Managing Attorney
