   Justice Joseph T. Deters Named Ohio Supreme Court Justice
Former Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph “Joe” T. Deters has been named a justice to the Supreme Court of Ohio by Governor Mike DeWine. Deters filled a vacancy left by Justice Sharon Kennedy who took over as Chief Justice when former Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor reached reelection limits. Deters served as state treasurer from 1999 to 2004 and served as the Hamilton County Prosecutor twice, from 1992 to 1999 and again from 2005 to 2023.
Chief Justice Sharon L. Kennedy Elected
Sharon L. Kennedy was elected Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Ohio in November 2022. She is the eleventh Chief Justice and the second woman to serve in the role. Chief Justice Kennedy first joined the court as an associate justice in 2012. She was elected to her first full term in November 2014 and reelected in November 2020.
Melissa Powers Named Hamilton County Prosecutor
Melissa Powers was named the new Hamilton County Prosecutor, effec- tive January 24, 2023. Powers previously spent 16 years serving as a judge in the Hamilton County Municipal and Juve- nile Court systems, most recently as the administrative judge for the latter. Powers fills the position left vacant by the Hon. Joe Deters, who was named to the Ohio Supreme Court the same month. Powers will remain prosecutor until the next elec- tion, in 2024.
 Who Me? A Bankruptcy or Magistrate Judge?

The United States Courts invite inter- ested law students and attorneys to the national diversity event “Roadways to the Bench: Who Me? A Bankruptcy or Magistrate Judge?" The federal judiciary is respected throughout America and the world for its excellence and delivery of equal justice under the law. To continue as a model in providing fair and impar- tial justice, the federal judiciary is focused on attracting a wide and diverse pool of applicants for every position. Recognizing public confidence and trust are enhanced when the judiciary’s workforce broadly reflects the diversity of the public it serves, the federal judiciary is building on the
success of reaching candidates at its inau- gural 2019 “Roadways” event.
The event features a panel discus- sion by federal judges, live-streamed from Washington, D.C., followed by the in-person opportunity to participate in local roundtable discussions with federal judges about their respective pathways to the federal bench. Cincinnati, Ohio has been chosen as one of the hosts for the 38-city event, and will feature Sixth Circuit appellate, bankruptcy, district, and magistrate judges.
