The Basics of Music Copyright Law and Infringement

Jim Jesse Esq., will discuss the basics of music copyright law and infringement and the top 10 music copyright cases of all time. He will also discuss ethical issues
in representing a rock band, using The Beatles as a case study.
Jim Jesse has been an attorney since 1992 and has been a full-time Music Law presenter since 2013. Jesse consults and practices in areas regarding intellectual property, licensing and music law.

Presenters:
Michel Jendretzky is Legal Counsel at the Supreme Court of Ohio. In that role, she assists the Court with various administrative and operational concerns, and she counsels the Court on a wide range of legal matters regarding potential liability for the Court. Jendretzky started her career at the Ohio Legislative Service Commission, where she researched and drafted bills for legislative members. She then moved into private practice, representing clients in domestic relations matters and employment and business litigation. Jendretzky joined the Court in August 2020.
Bryan M. Smeenk is the Deputy Chief Legal Counsel for the Supreme Court of Ohio.
In addition to providing legal advice to the court, he serves as the staff liaison to
the Commission on the Rules of Superintendence. He also worked at every level of
the state courts as a judicial attorney—Stow Municipal Court, Ninth District Court
of Appeals, Franklin County Court of Common Pleas, followed by the Supreme
Court. Smeenk returned to the Supreme Court after three years at Bricker & Eckler representing primarily public entities in litigation and appeals. He received his J.D. from the University of Akron School of Law and his B.A. from Ohio University.
