Editorial Guidelines for the CBA Report


Focus & Scope

The CBA Report focuses on current events in the law and topics of general interest to the Greater Cincinnati legal community. Articles should focus on practice issues or concerns, not theoretical or esoteric points. Preference is given to previously unpublished articles. The editor reviews all submissions and reserves the right to edit for clarity and/or reject any content.

Style

  • Clear and concise. Avoid the style of law reviews, academic journals, legal briefs or scholarly articles.
  • Avoid legal jargon. When technical terms are necessary, briefly explain them.

Length

  • Feature articles: 1,200 - 1,800 words
  • Longer submissions are considered on request

Deadlines

The CBA Report is a bi-monthly publication. Articles for consideration must be submitted at least four weeks prior to publication date. Please see schedule.

  • Jan/Feb issue: Dec. 1 deadline
  • March/April issue: Feb.1 deadline
  • May/June issue: April 1 deadline
  • July/Aug issue: June 1 deadline
  • Sept/Oct issue: Aug 1 deadline
  • Nov/Dec issue: Oct. 1 deadline

Editing & Review

  • All articles will be copyedited to conform to house style and for clarity.
  • All submissions are subject to editorial review for clarity, length, and tone.
  • Substantive changes will be returned to authors for approval. Minor edits may be made without notice.

Copyright

Authors grant the CBA first North American serial rights, together with non-exclusive print and digital republication and reprint rights. The author warrants the article is his/her original work and its publication by the CBA will not infringe upon copyrights or other rights of any other person or entity.

Format

  • Submit in Microsoft Word.
  • Do not format into columns, boxes or use color.
  • Include name and 2–3 sentence author bio at the end of the file.

Graphics/Photos

  • Please include a high-resolution color headshot of the author.
  • The CBA Report will obtain artwork or photos to accompany an article. Suggestions are welcome. Any photos submitted for consideration must include a cutline identifying individuals. Editor reserves right to change artwork as necessary.
  • By submitting images, the author represents they have permission or rights to use them.

Submissions are reviewed on an ongoing basis and will be published as soon as they fit into our editorial calendar. Submit articles to communications@cincybar.org
