CBA Blog Submission Guidelines


Purpose & Focus

Posts should educate or inform members of the legal community or public about matters regarding the law, profession, or civic/legal systems. Acceptable topics include practice insights, commentary on developments in law, access to justice, court updates, and community/legal service spotlights. Content may not be promotional.

Word Count

  • Target: 500–900 words
  • Short alerts or “takes” on time sensitive issues: 300–500 words
  • Longer posts: 600–1,000 words (contact editor before submitting)

Tone & Voice

  • Professional but approachable. Use plain language, not law-review style.
  • Assume a general reader or attorney who may not practice in the specific area.
  • Frame controversial topics analytically, not argumentatively.
  • Prioritize clarity and brevity.

Style & Citations

  • Use AP Style for general writing.
  • Cite cases or authorities with hyperlinks to public sources when possible. Formal footnotes acceptable if needed.
  • Use active voice and short paragraphs for web readability.

Images & Graphics

  • Images are welcome but optional. Provide only if you have rights to use them.
  • Include a short caption or credit if needed.

Submission Format

  • Submit as Word doc
  • Include author name, law firm, and 2–3 sentence bio.
  • Use flush-left paragraphs with a blank line between paragraphs.

Editing & Publication

  • All posts are reviewed for clarity, accuracy, and fit with editorial guidelines.
  • Minor edits may be made without further review. Larger edits will be returned to the author.
  • Submission does not guarantee publication. Editor reserves final discretion.
