Am I Eligible For Unemployment Benefits?

by Kelly Mulloy Myers, Lawyer Referral Service Panelist

In Ohio, in order to be eligible for unemployment benefits, you must have worked a sufficient number of weeks and earned sufficient wages in the months before filing your claim. If you worked at least 20 weeks during the first four of the last five calendar quarters before your application and earned an average weekly wage of at least $280 during your employment, you may be eligible for benefits. You should file your application for benefits at www.unemployment.ohio.gov or call 1-877-OHIOJOB as soon as you become unemployed. If you became unemployed due to a lack of work, you were fired without just cause, or you quit your job with just cause, your benefits should be allowed.
