Background
For nearly 20 years, Bennett has practiced business employment law in both private practice and corporate settings. As an in-house corporate attorney for a national retailer, she designed the second iteration of the company’s early dispute resolution program and served as an advocate in resolving program-related disputes. She has mediated employment disputes, as both a neutral and advocate, pursuant to Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967. Representative matters include disputes involving discrimination (race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, age, mental or physical disability), race and sexual harassment, retaliation, constructive discharge and wrongful termination.

Prior to attending law school, she earned a Master’s Degree in Sociology with a focus on race, gender and class in the workplace. Bennett’s social science knowledge of human behaviors in the workplace provides her with a unique lens for seeing underlying interpersonal dynamics or issues that are often present in employment disputes. Her curiosity about human interactions in the workplace also drives her philosophical approach to mediation. She curiously explores the human behavior related barriers that prevent the parties from resolving the dispute without a neutral. During her initial discussions with the parties and review of the files, she continues this diagnostic process and uses the information gathered to structure the mediation in a way to reduce the barriers. Her people-centered approach to mediation affords her the ability to create unique solutions to deeply personal and seemingly intractable employment disputes.
